The new Intl API while amazing, sounds like a big lost opportunity for built-in modules. I feel sorry seeing this new API in the global scope of node 12 (and the web)

Do any web APIs use built-in modules? I'd love to start seeing that be a thing. Maybe it already is, not sure. Maybe offer APIs on both window for non-module app but still allow importing. Would certainly make mocking, etc easier.

We're working on a few. That said, the Node opposition to expanding the global has never been explained to me in a way I can understand.

Globals are bad, and node started from scratch providing a nice and clean std in modules. I can understand why they see it as a step backwards.

I can see that adding URL made sense, in order to make both platforms more consistent. But new apis? Please let’s work in built modules instead of shipping more APIs in globalThis

"URL" *is* an API. It's a parser and an API on top of that parser. Why is it different?

because URL was already there, we can’t do nothing about it... but now looks like there is a better approach, I just would like new apis to follow this new “modern” way

I see. I'm happy for us to move more API development out to built-in modules once they're proven out for more things. That said, there doesn't seem to be a coherent policy for why Node can't/won't add globals and it continues to confuse me.

happy to know! I would love to see a lot more of that! imo, it's one of the proposals that can bring more value to the JS-platform (web and node together) at this moment
