The new Intl API while amazing, sounds like a big lost opportunity for built-in modules. I feel sorry seeing this new API in the global scope of node 12 (and the web)

Do any web APIs use built-in modules? I'd love to start seeing that be a thing. Maybe it already is, not sure. Maybe offer APIs on both window for non-module app but still allow importing. Would certainly make mocking, etc easier.

We're working on a few. That said, the Node opposition to expanding the global has never been explained to me in a way I can understand.

Globals are bad, and node started from scratch providing a nice and clean std in modules. I can understand why they see it as a step backwards.

"Globals are bad" is an assertion, not an argument. I'm looking for the description of why a growing standard library is a hardship. I can think of a few reasons; what are Node's?

Globals, singletons etc are antipatterns, but that’s for another discussion haha modules can be eventually patched nicely with import maps, globals instead have to be monkey patched with polyfills. And that’s another source of problems in this platform
