The idea that we'll need to teach every future generation of webdev how to operate bundlers and transpilers and all the rest strikes me as a good way not to have future generations of web developers.https://twitter.com/justinfagnani/status/1114175719456657410 …

To me the solution isn't to abstract away the browser, but add to it the composition features that frameworks/bundlers (and every other app platform) have: modules, components, encapsulation, and a dependency systems that admits the actual resources used...

I increasingly think that's part of the appeal of AMP to a whole group of developers. Constraints, high-level components, good perf makes people happy. See for example:http://www.kurdistan24.net/en/news/084f0338-5cb5-48bb-9766-d8c0a15bc1f9 …

The AMP concept itself is great. A subset of the web that can work super fast is great. But their owning / centralizing of it is offputting, IMO. I wish they’d just creat tooling to help people write “in the style of AMP”. It’s doable and I think would be very cool.

But then isn't the tooling the very thing this thread started against?

I think we can get to a place where the livable space is much larger. Today we're teetering on a performance knife edge (and mostly falling off), so we end up needing both too many constraints and too much tooling.

Oh, absolutely. The main problem isn't the lack of solutions, it's not seeing this as a critical issue worth focusing on.
