Ya I'm super over it. Progressive enhancement still works great and new shiny JS syntax is broadly available to all evergreen browsers. The compiled thing is legacy, not modern, and unnecessary for most use cases now imo.

I keep waiting for the fever to break...and waiting...and waiting... JS-first has ruined an entire generation of products at this point

We are only in year 5ish so it should be in or approaching the back half. Imo once ie11 support drops the last reason to argue for these practices goes away. Velocity to deploy/iterate incentive will win out.

Mobile-first teams should already be liberated, but I see new teams still picking up desktop-era tools (React, et. al.) and shipping polyfills for things > 95% of their userbase has. You'll need to forgive some pessimism from me on this.

I can't name names, but I've worked with a large number of corps the last couple years who have moved aggressively to WC's and progressive web tech for both their legacy web apps and new dev. Much like Alex, blows my mind that the platform is winning there first.

Web perf is seeing a similar rise there; I've got corps integrating lighthouse and other measures, actively refactoring for 3G and CPU limited devices in sprints, and seeing those gains drive ongoing decisions.
