I presume we'll get the `
@mixin` syntax we prototyped in '11 sometime in the mid '20s at this rate:https://github.com/kalman/Experimental-CSS/blob/master/style_examples/button3.html#L21 …2 replies 1 retweet 9 likesShow this thread -

#StandardsAreHard. Just because it takes significantly longer than going alone doesn't mean people are twiddling their thumbs.1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -

Not implying thumb twiddling, implying serialization of all things through too few, too narrow, channels.

The bottleneck effect is the real obstacle. People are willing to say "sure, sounds like a good idea", but there are still details that need to be figured out before things can be implemented interoperably, and not enough people doing the grunt work.

I think my discomfort with
@slightlylate's tweet is that it dumps on the people in the CSSWG who are actually showing up to do the work, who are exactly the people we don't want to discourage.1 reply 0 retweets 2 likes -

Would like to convince everyone (including those doing the work) that standards don't have to be *this* hard. We can go faster, and CSSWG needs to recognize that and prioritize it.

We did prioritize a lot of amazing features though! Nesting was easily handled with tooling while ex. Grid wasn't. I actually think we made the right trade offs. Separately in blink we had to rewrite the parser from scratch (which webkit now uses too).

My curse is that I see deadweight losses and can't ignore them the way it seems everyone else can.

The CSS Working Group approved CSS Nesting — which now has early Working Draft in Stage 1. Wohooo!
The following will hopefully soon work in vanilla
