I misread the OT too—I thought you were saying if we want software to be used by the whole industry it can’t be OSS. But I think you were saying if OSS is going to be used by the whole industry it can’t be an ESR Wild West horror show.

LKML is the sort of performatively bad time I hope nobody on my team ever has to deal with. So toxic that it literally inspired me to try to do better in communities I work in.

We created rules around civility in Dojo (pre modern CoCs) directly because of the LKML experience.
