For god’s sake please don’t say Polymer. I’m desperate to have this in webpack so a sizesble % of web devs would actually have access to it.
(would be happy to even build a webpack plugin for it, if the right hooks are in core - cc @wSokra)

Why this hostility? There is nothing polymer specific with it, it is just done by their team, because they do a lot of great work in many areas...

No hostility. But if tools to solve this are gonna actually benefit a large % of devs, it’ll need to be compatible with webpack. That’s just a reality.

People used to say that about jQuery though. I work on improving standards instead of specific solutions, and judging from my experience, you will see new and better solutions popping up as a result of that

crikey, this is a standalone tool you can plug into Node. It doesn't require any of the rest of Polymer. What the heck?

Will it plug into devs’ existing webpack builds and upgrade their apps to conditionally serve a modern or legacy build against the relevant built bundles? A tool doing that would have a monumental impact on the web dev landscape. Immediate ~30% bundle size reduction.

If you conditionally build, it conditionally serves. And there *is* an end-to-end solution that is Polymer-based (which is why I didn't recommend it).

Replying to @slightlylate @AdamRackis and
The PWA Starter Kit's tooling is end-to-end in this way; makes conditional compilation a trivial option, plugs right into node-prpl-server serving of the right thing to the right users.

This sort of structure is hard to retrofit into tools that weren't designed for it: https://pwa-starter-kit.polymer-project.org/building-and-deploying … But you totally can do this with your own webpack config, node-prpl-sever, and a ton of elbow grease
