Have you ever been to the real world? Sluggish and bloated is the natural state of the universe. Heck, how much energy do you spend on unnecessary biological processes and redundant organs?

There’s interesting data about the average response time of user interfaces. Ever see an experienced ticket agent or bank teller whip through a VT100 interface? Can’t happen on the web, it’s not fast enough now. /cc

My father stuck to terminal apps for stock management and such. After some tests with gui and web ui he, his partners and his customers agreed to stick to terminal mode. Why ? Entry times plummeted and these people lost money because of the queues of people waiting.

Infosec also bears some blame here. The rise of http as a transport layer was no accident. We put firewalls around everything and left TCP 80 open. It's absolutely no coincidence that everything we already had needed to be reinvented in the browser.

Well also most of what we need to exchange is composed of bounded records larger than a single packet and neither TCP (byte streams) or UDP (small packets) let you do that natively. SCTP did but we firewalled *that* but quick.

Though not as good as sctp the use of a large window size and initiatives such as quic&spdy do make a difference. HTTP/2 seems to not take of quickly but holds promise. Also because of serious security concerns as it permits push and bi-directional communications over one port.

Not really serious concerns, compared to the complexity of the content being pushed.

Not sure where you're going with this. I think it is safe to say even simple scripts can create entire p2p networks on lan with an http/2 enabled browser.

I don’t think HTTP/2 adds peer to peer serving. That’s webrtc

http/2 requires single port, major difference

Sorry, the fundamental network design of this place is designed to spawn barfights, including the fact that Mute is far away but STFU is right there and can get likes (I've seen this in a bunch of people, it's not a complaint against you. Medium is the message in all things.)
