Getting a new individual health plan right now. My premiums are over $16,000 per year and its the lowest level plan. What a mess. I want either universal health for everybody, or a plan that just covers really big risks and I can just pay for a broken arm like I can a sandwich.

Only one of those options will lead to price reductions in aggregate, but thats the minor point. Insurance isn't like other goods: the rest of us pay when the underinsured get sick. Sickness is not a ham sandwich (unless your sandwiches are contagious).

The US "system" structurally enables price gouging at the expense of health outcomes. We pay 2x the international average for middling, horrifically unfair outcomes.

...and that's enabled, in large part, by the idiotic idea that your health is somehow a choice, or that you'll go price shopping from a stretcher. "Bare bones" insurance is a scam.
