Pixel 3 has an 845, which is better in basically every way to a 2013 chip. Time moves slowly in Android-land, but it still moves forward.

@ericlaw, I may have been confused about the question! I thought you were referring to the Cortex A12: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARM_Cortex-A12 …1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

...rather than the A12 Bionic from Apple: https://en.wikichip.org/wiki/apple/ax/a12 … The Apple A12 is superior to the Qualcomm 845 in every way. Totally dominates.

The A12 is OUT OF THIS WORLD: https://www.anandtech.com/show/13392/the-iphone-xs-xs-max-review-unveiling-the-silicon-secrets/2 … vs.: https://www.anandtech.com/show/12420/snapdragon-845-performance-preview … The caches alone...lordy.

Qualcomm is getting mauled over and over and over. They don't produce a premium chip, but they charge as though the 845 is one...it's unbelievable. The 850 looks like weak sauce too: https://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/3061159/qualcomm-snapdragon-850-benchmarks-leak-but-dont-promise-the-world … Hey
@stshank: any chance y'all will report on this?2 replies 0 retweets 6 likes -

At some point perhaps, but not likely via leaked benchmarks. I've been asking assorted folks about it for awhile but it's not at the top of my priority list. Sorry — I know it's one of your pet peeves.

Hear you about leaks; the public track record speaks for itself, tho. Android-ecosystem SoC vendors are 1+ year behind. It's a problem because that lack of focus hurts the user experience and trickles down to the mid-tier and low-end parts where the volume is.

So that fact that Android-ecosystem SoCs are bad at the high end is a scandal, but the fact that they're crippled at the budget end as a result of hand-me-down design/production is a disaster.
