My big worry is that we've already had the bit of our lives where politics was adversarial but decent and it was the 1990s; now we get nativism and screaming matches and anger, and then it all falls apart, and after the ruin we rediscover decency but I'm eighty. As per history.

The collision of consequence and now-willful ignorance is terrifying. I told friends in '08 that we had to get to a place of stability for the least well off...how's that going? Rough sleeping in London & SF is still horrifically bad.

And we won't be able to find a way to deal with the next thing without some consensus. A drying-up middle and a retreat from evidence does not bode well.
