Fun game: write down how many copies of a Promise polyfill you *think* your site sends to Chrome/Firefox/Safari users...now go read your JS output. How many were you off by?

I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on http://polyfill.io . Personally I'd love for Google to offer such an API. Seems you could even determine at build time what language features are used to generate the list of items you'd need to request from the API.

I love that the
@FT runs http://Polyfill.io because it means Google won't leave it in a largely-unmaintained (then suddenly killed) state. It's an outstanding tool that I frequently recommend. Hats off to the folks who built it, including@triblondon1 reply 2 retweets 10 likes -
Agreed. The only reason I mention Google is that certain, unnamed, ridiculously large retailers who I may be be working are less likely to want to depend on a service offered by FT instead of a Google Cloud API w/ an SLA. Personally, I'm very happy w/ the FT version.

I see! Interesting to contemplate. Would said retailers pay for such a service?

I cannot speak for them, but... I would certainly expect so.

Truth is, I think many would. This is a universal problem I see when consulting with large companies. You either include everything you'd need for lowest common denominator browser or you invent your own feature detection/polyfill approach.

I think there's an interesting question/opportunity here for folks like @fastly who are already in the perf infra business (and, IIRC, front for http://polyfill.io already).

Yeah, I suppose I don't care who does it, as long as its rock solid and can be confidently used by web giants.
