Back at Microsoft I used to joke about using “Do you want to work on standards?” as an interview questions. The punchline was: If the candidate answers yes, it's a no-hire.

I think we do better in Chrome, but have worked actively against building positions for "standards people". It's isolating; defines the role away from the (correct, useful) task of feature design. Also try to support those engaged in standards so fewer people have a Bad Time.
