11:02: (Replaced!) Captain levels with us: they're flying aircraft with busted APUs so couldn't start engines on internal power. What dastardly shit was Virgin America pulling with maintenance? Did they buy a lemon?

For context: flight last month was cancelled due to Virgin failing to pull planes for required FAA bulletins. Huge aviation no-no. Hosed APU (tiny jet engine at the back) is only an irritant by comparison...but what are the odds?

This is hitting them hard: they just pulled a crew off the line because they were afraid of hitting timeouts on sleep/wake/work cycle. Hoses planning for whole routes.
