I *badly* want to see a competitive web-based OS fit these markets; the fit is excellent, but there's smoke pouring out of this one already. Some questions for @KaiOStech and @KaiHelps :
First, where's the source code?

This looks like a public mirror; so where does development happen? Private HG?:https://github.com/kaiostech/gecko-b2g …

(as an aside, good to see this; it wasn't there last I looked, so steps in the right direction at least)

Second question: what's the roadmap? B2G *looks* to be getting updates in the
@KaiOStech tree: https://github.com/kaiostech/gecko-b2g/commits/b2g48 … Will these be released to existing users? OTA? When?Show this thread -
Third, what's the plan for APIs?
@mozilla seems to have decided that the web doesn't need to compete, and@KaiOStech ships proprietary B2G APIs; https://developer.kaiostech.com/api ...but not web APIs like Web Bluetooth or Generic Sensors: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Web_Bluetooth_API …https://developers.google.com/web/updates/2017/09/sensors-for-the-web …Show this thread -
Lastly, what's the update policy? Will
@KaiOStech devices be abandonware (see Android) or will they be good citizens and deliver safe, reliable computing (think CrOS)?Show this thread

I think 48 was the last internal build version. Certainly anything after that had it's APIs ripped from Firefox.

Yep, I know -- which is why the current state doesn't surprise me -- but it's still a huge problem and
@mozilla weirdly seems AWOL from the biggest success Gecko has ever had in EM

I wonder if KaiOS have painted themselves into a corner. The b2g APIs were removed from the Gecko codebase, so they can’t update to 49+. Not sure whether migrating to Blink or something else is doable. Reminds me of Opera Mini and Presto.

I'm more confused about why some of these new feature phones even exist. The new Nokia "retro" phones are more expensive and less performant than most entry level Android phones.
