Note that the G4 is lightyears beyond the Bharat 2 (which is reviewed in @PranavDixit's article):

Do you recommend this as a low-end testing device now/have a recommendation for where to get one?

Most of the low-end devices in the IN market are produced locally because tariffs, but it's easy to get something packing a similar chip; e.g. the Nokia 2: https://www.amazon.com/Nokia-2-8GB-Unlocked-Smartphone-T-Mobile/dp/B075FLG6MV/ …

That said, to avoid shocking folks too much, I still tend to recommend the Moto G4: https://www.amazon.com/Motorola-XT1621-Factory-Unlocked-Phone/ …

The G4 is twice the phone the Bharat 2 or the Nokia 2 are -- and things go sideways non-linearly the further you scale down, 512mb is UGLY -- so if you can stomach the truly low end, give that Nokia 2 a try.
