I believe that user experience is more important than developer experience, but the ability to ship frequently and on-board team members quickly is business-critical. I don't hear quite enough about striking the right balance. And, to be clear, I have more questions than answershttps://twitter.com/slightlylate/status/1018336979832852481 …

This is why tool support matters. There shouldn't need to be a "but". I'm sorry your tools left you and your team high and dry.

I wouldn't say they've left *my* team high and dry. The React-based product my team builds is meeting our business goals. At the end of the day making *our* customers happy and achieving business results are my top priority so.

I'm saying that you feel this as a tension, which means it's something the team has likely struggled with and had to bring in extra tools and approaches to tackle. The tools didn't set you up for success and that's a shame.

I think he is saying they did set him up for success. JS parse time is not the only metric for success.

To be clear, it was challenging to get where we are. It shouldn't be this hard. And as a product team (vs a team building browsers or tools) I shouldn't *need* to employ people to focus exclusively on performance and build infrastructure.

I also want to be clear, although Alex rustles feathers, I am glad someone is doing it, and agree. I don't think there is any tooling currently that sets us up for "success" in all categories at once. It is all trade-offs. If you only knew the things that were imposed on my team
