I believe that user experience is more important than developer experience, but the ability to ship frequently and on-board team members quickly is business-critical. I'm saying that you feel this as a tension, which means it's something the team has likely struggled with and had to bring in extra tools and approaches to tackle. The tools didn't set you up for success and that's a shame.

I think he is saying they did set him up for success. JS parse time is not the only metric for success.

To be clear, it was challenging to get where we are. It shouldn't be this hard. And as a product team (vs a team building browsers or tools) I shouldn't *need* to employ people to focus exclusively on performance and build infrastructure.
