But should it? Is there one point where society should take responsibility for their actions - even if they are bad and probably will have serious consequences. If every vote can be revisited or ignored, that is no longer democracy. This should be a harsh lesson for the world.

Yes. It should. As has been repeated ad naseum by everyone with sense: the referendum was advisory; it was missold to the public based on lies; the official campaign broke election law; it will do untold damage. Knowing what we all now know, article 50 can and should be revoked.
