Controversial opinion: I like the touch bar. It’s great. Contextual. Everything always seems to be where I’d expect it to be when I need it.
why so much hate?

I constantly fat finger the ESC button which in many apps (e.g. hangouts) destroys input. I hate this soooo much. The tape kind of helps but even 3 layers don't completely remove the touchability. At least the tape gives haptic feedback.pic.twitter.com/6vUDr1QILv

This. If there was a version with everything *but* the ESC removed, I'd be up for it. As is, I'm plotting my escape to CrOS as the daily-carry laptop.

Exactly. It is also noteworthy that Apple allows configuring all other features of the Touchbar, just not ESC (which I mapped to caps lock via 1st class OSX feature). Since it has been one OSX update since it was clear that this is bad already I assume they are trolling me.

Former emacs users? Maybe it’s my small hands, but I don’t accidentally hit the esc key.

I am but a simple programmer with many and varied external kbds, so: Caps Lock → CTRL CTRL → CTRL ESC → ESC
