You might be - have you seen some of the tracking and auditing software some companies install on developer's pc's? 20 odd McAfee precesses does bad things to a good pc.

The chip in that thing is a hand-me-down from 2014, and it wasn't even particularly good then. 4 cores, but they're all in-order with no cache to speak of.
