@slightlylate Have you seen https://weblog.west-wind.com/posts/2018/May/31/Web-Code-is-a-solved-Problem-How-about-fixing-Web-UI-next …? It resonates with me, but I'd like to know your thoughts from a web components angle.

First, ZOMG that post is long (says someone who writes lengthy tracts when tiny pamphlets would do). The situation with Web Components has changed since then: https://www.cnet.com/news/mozilla-firefox-joins-chrome-safari-making-it-easier-to-build-sophisticated-websites/ …

They're shipped on Safari and UC and Samsung Internet, which means if you're targeting mobile, they're *everywhere*. Houdini is the next big extensibility point, landing this year in Chrome (Custom Paint already shipped!): https://css-houdini.rocks/

Also, the caniuse link in that post is pretty misleading. V0 support will start to dry up as usage declines. V1 is getting implemented everywhere.

BTW, I fully agree that HTML is semantically impoverished and that browser vendors have been less-than-creative in improving the situation, e.g., for <input>. I'm moving some of my attention back to this problem this year, FWIW.

First, thank you so much for taking the time to read it and reply. It's great to hear, the sooner I'm not in a "React has the optimal X widget, Angular the optimal Y, which to use..." the better. And thank you for putting attention on impoverishment this year. How can I help?

We'll be looking for feedback on specific improvements we're proposing; I expect all those proposals to happen at @wicg_
