People sometimes suggest I should calm down about web performance because the web feels fine on *their* phone. and I pulled a little data to try to visualise why that might be both true and not particularly relevant:

Combine this with the realisation that *all* the folks with an ethical core are now out of the WH, the FEC is toothless, and the Senate will underwrite all wrongdoing.

In-app browsers bad for users, but terrible for web devs: 1. Layout is often off 2. Various APIs are missing or misbehave 3. Debugging is close to impossible 4. Apps do weird s**t, like preloading pages in the background, throwing off bounce-rate and click-through measurements

I would pay an embarrassing amount of money is disable all in-app browsers on phones. Especially IPhone, where cookies aren’t shared across browsers. At least half of the complaints about not being logged in would go away. Ban in-app browsers.

This is my last post on this blog before we leave the European Union at 11pm. Thanks for being so good to us, European pals—even as we, the tiny, insignificant “United” Kingdom ripped ourselves apart. Keep a seat warm for us, will you? 💙💛💙
