I remember when I first read about Caltrain electrification it was slated to be completed in 2017, which seemed impossibly far in the future. Now it’s pushed back to 2022. Does anyone seriously believe it will actually happen?

Is it an engineering challenge? Or a social/political challenge?

Can’t separate the two, they are one and the same

Caltrans isn’t public works, but maybe they aren’t really trying their best best.https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/article/SF-Public-Works-Director-Mohammed-Nuru-arrested-15010510.php …

I am a Caltrain hater (check my feed) but they did have the complication of being part of the larger HSR project which makes it a bit harder.

Also they made the decision to buy European-style trains which are very nice but required basically rewriting federal rail safety laws.
