Hey @slatestarcodex, in re your current post, do you realize that computer programming was nearly ONE HUNDRED PERCENT FEMALE originally?
I think it requires less just-soing to say the gender differences we agree exist cause the effects we would predict them to have, than...

Except that's still just-soing, because there's NOTHING NEUTRAL about framing tech as "for shut-in nerds who systematize a lot".
Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

...to say that for some reason there were successful sexist stereotypes in STEM, but not other fields like law/medicine.
-
Medicine is, on the whole, a more conservative field than programming. I would expect discrimination, if it existed lol, to go other way.
-
Except for Psychiatry, which is like 90% Democrat.
-
I've had no less than 3 Psych residents and 2 attendings go into unsolicited talks about social justice topics while I was on the rotation.
-
Imagine if someone gave an unsolicited talk supporting Trump!
-
Well, y'know, nobody likes rapists. (not actually true: obviously plenty of people LOVE rapists. But nobody whose opinion i care about!)
-
Argue the point, not the person. Plenty of valid reasons to support Trump's policies, or at least vote against Democrat ones.
-
I'm not a Democrat, in point of fact. And i think Trump being a rapist is entirely relevant to whether he should run the country!
