I think that the punishment for contortions is different from the punishment for lying, especially since it's less clear.

I think it's important to preserve the concept of "honest disagreement" & understand that people are biased to overestimate dishonesty.

My guess is that most of the people on the other side think they're being honest and we are lying about the science.
