This, btw, is the SSC post about which @freddiedeboer said "There’s more wrong here than I know what to do with". And he's right. Dreck. https://twitter.com/GabrielRossman/status/805067812259495936 …

I wasn't denouncing you. Just the ideas. I also think the blanket approval of you by many pundits is, er, misplaced.
-
Plus I'm a teacher and a writer who talks a lot about these issues, so my followers grok my gripe.
-
Moreover, you pretty much mandate people don't talk about race & IQ, & that, coupled w/poverty, is a lot of my objection.
-
Also, it seems like IQ issues should be a factor in favor. If schools can't change lives, at least make them cheaper.
-
Vouchers will not scale. Nor will charters. And if public schools acknowledged IQ, they would be cheaper.
-
Govt things are forbidden from acknowledging *anything*. With charter schools, at least some principals can work on your lines.
-
No, they can't. What they do is argue that their superior results are superior instruction, & dump the rest.
-
..it's one of the reasons the middlebrows of mainstream casually assume public schools are broken. Which is seriously flawed

So instead of point by point, here's a mindset:https://educationrealist.wordpress.com/2012/09/07/the-fallacy-at-the-heart-of-all-reform/ …
-
If I may summarize EdReal: 1) Many problems in schooling are about IQ/conscientiousness and home/community(SES)
-
2) The real logic behind charter/vouchers is not "competition", but skirting known public system problems.
-
Voucher/charter discussion is confused because #1 is crimethink and #2 politically/bureaucratically intractable.
-
So we voucher/charter advocates avoid issue #1 like plague and elide issue #2 by ignoring fallacy of composition
-
This is disingenuous, but not stupid. Charters/vouchers may be feasible political lever to improve public system
-
Pretty talk about choice and innovation as velvet glove over cost-cutting via cutting admin bloat+union-busting.
-
Maybe also some cover for common sense curriculum reactionary reform and de-facto if not explicit tracking.
