Misclassification of Cardiometabolic Health when using Body Mass Index Categories in NHANES 2005-2012 http://www.nature.com/ijo/journal/vaop/naam/pdf/ijo201617a.pdf … BMI is bad
@bechhof BMI doesn't correlate perfectly with other definitions of risk, but nothing correlates perfectly. Also, note author named "Hunger".

@slatestarcodex look how lousy the correlation is tho -
@bechhof Are you talking about data in abstract, or something else in paper? -
@bechhof Yeah, shows highest BMI 4x more likely unhealthy as lowest. Obesity is strong risk factor for metabolic syndrome, but not identical -
@bechhof You would probably get something similar if you counted number of cigarettes smoked vs. vascular health or something. -
@bechhof But is important to be able to ballpark metabolic risk, getting all those parameters in study is much harder than weighing self. -
@bechhof Sorry, I think I screwed up the order of those replies. -
@slatestarcodex my guess is people implicitly use prediction intervals that are too narrow
