Dear statisticians: why do you need like two hundred different things with names like "Schmoe's zeta" which are all just effect size?

@slatestarcodex because of Popper worship which gave them the stupid idea they can't test the presence of an effect. -
@slatestarcodex also why is noone using probability of superiority? It's like the most intuitive effect size meassure ever? -
@slatestarcodex it makes it seem like we know lots of awesome stuff that subject-matter experts aren't trained for.
