When the Elliot Rodger shooting happened, I told a man in my life that it scared me that he would be applauded by some and the attitude of "that'll teach women to start putting out when asked" would get louder. He smiled at me and said that wouldn't happen, dismissing my concern.

Since the Toronto attack, I've watch the statuses roll in from people who were part of the above, and they're shocked and disgusted and can't believe this exists. But I know for a fact they were aware of it or participated in some way, so what are they shocked about?

That the women, who's concerns they dismissed as overkill or not real, ended up being more in tune than they were? This isn't new, it's just louder for those who don't deal with it on a day to day.
