After 1 week at mastodon, I am now disabling cross posting. I'll keep an eye on the sinking bird, but I don't feel comfortable using it.
I hope to see you all in the feediverse.

The more I learn about what is happening inside Twitter, the less any of this makes sense. Nothing that Elon has done has been to keep Twitter together - or even functioning!
In two weeks, he's let go 50% of staff, and his actions are pushing the other 40% to leave ASAP.
According to messages shared in Twitter Slack, Twitter’s CISO, chief privacy office, and chief compliance officer all resigned last night.
An employee says it will be up to engineers to “self-certify compliance with FTC requirements and other laws.”
I would rather pay 6$ a month for my own Mastodon instance than 8$ a month for accessing Twitter.
In fact, I am donating 1$ a month to the androiddev instance. Even cheaper.
Every single advertiser is about to drop Twitter in the next 48 hours. Person creates fake Nintendo Twitter account, pays $8, gets verified immediately and within 2 hours, all their sh**posts go viral. Real Nintendo account gets spammed with complaints.
Just in: starting today (Thursday) remote work is not an option at Twitter: all employees are expected to be 40 hours in the office. Only exceptions are for those physically unable to travel to an office or exceptions signed off by Elon.
Why the sudden change? My take:
Ireland's 10th birthday so what better way to celebrate than by doing a #parkrun with us. It's free, fun & a fantastic way to start your weekend. All you need to do is #dfyb & if you've yet to sign up, here's the link to do so https://parkrun.ie/register/
Opendoor has $8B in revenue. Their market cap has dropped from $19B at their peak to $1B today
Bird dropped from $2.4B to $115M
Twilio has ~$3.6B in revenue; they dropped from $70B to ~$8B
Here's why gross margins can kill a business...
Anyone looking for a Staff Engineer who has spent 7+ years working in Android Performance, Stability, and Observability? I've never done a leetcode, but I sure have improved the usability of this app on bad Android phones and networks!
I'm going to try out a new #MTG format I call "lieutenant".
It's basically Brawl, with artisan restrictions and a wider pool.
In other words: singleton, 60 cards, only common and uncommon, modern, with a planeswalker or legendary creature as commander
What I'm hearing from inside Twitter:
Several people who were let go on Friday, then asked to come back were given less than an hour as a deadline.
Software engineers who got this call I know of all said "no" and the only ones who could eventually say "yes" are on visas.
Also:
Stupid question about pronouns. AFAIK the second part is redundant, why not have it shorter in 1. I mean just "he" or "she" or "they".
I'm sure there's a reason for it, I'm just curious.
I'm old enough to remember the dot com bubble burst, and what I'm seeing is giving me the creeps.
A correction on VC / start-up finding was necessary, but there's going to be pain.
Couple of days in mastodon... A feed with just the people I follow, an actual timeline, without algorithms, without ads.
I'll stick around Twitter for a couple of weeks, but I'm not coming back.
CONFIRMED: Twitter is now asking some fired workers to please come back
- Some were laid off by mistake
- Some were let go before management realized their experience is needed to build new features Elon Musk is planning
FFS 😆
I bought the blue buttons and the blue stick for the arcade cabinet, but ultimately decided to keep the buttons red and green. About time to use them in a joystick.
And now I have doubts again.
Apparently this is my last day with the little blue check, so I spent it making bug verification. As one does. Feel free to use :) Different versions threaded
Folks at Twitter past and present are strong and resilient. They will always find a way no matter how difficult the moment. I realize many are angry with me. I own the responsibility for why everyone is in this situation: I grew the company size too quickly. I apologize for that.
Regarding Twitter’s reduction in force, unfortunately there is no choice when the company is losing over $4M/day.
Everyone exited was offered 3 months of severance, which is 50% more than legally required.
Gonna do a thread whre I run through the similarities and differences between Air Land & Sea and Marvel Snap, largely for my own benefit as a designer in this space. The differences are of particular interest to me -- what does their game do differently than my game and why?
