A snow fly at 11,700 ft near Berthoud Pass, Colorado. This individual seemed unphased by the 40 mph gusting winds.

Hey Susanna! I've been running such a database for 5 years now (7k+ entries)! It's so fun to peruse and also people use the data to advocate for higher stipends in their departments. I would love it if you would point people there! Thank you!

Great piece by highlighting issues faced by parent-scientists and describing real-world solutions (and a role for funding agencies). Awesome to see our efforts at get a mention as well.

A new species of Vates from the Atlantic rainforest. First record of the genus from that rich but highly threated biome. Vates phoenix represents the re-birth of the mantis collection at the Museu Nacional de Brasil, destroyed in a fire in 2018 (hence the name "phoenix"). Link👇

Thanks to heroic efforts by my team over many years, especially Joe Woodgate, Vince Gallo and Jason Lim, we can now finally radar-track bees' flight in 3 dimensions and see what bees see along the way.

It’s true! Butterflies are just another group of colorful day-flying moths. Has been proven scientifically with DNA evidence in numerous studies.

A volunteer sent us this video of a sprightly Chionea high up in the San Juan range of Colorado. So far, we've only received reports of snow flies in states with legal weed (WA, OR, CA, NV, AK, ME, VT). Coincidence?
