    Compared my old statistical inference textbooks with recent textbooks, not that much difference, considerable relabeling, same ridiculous assumptions required to do the math. If only John Tukey had won (see his essay "Sunset Salvo")

    The judgement in the was very clear that the NFSP was not independent of Post Office Limited and its representation of sub-postmasters has been questionable at best

    "It is obvious, in my judgment, that the NFSP is not remotely independent of the Post Office, nor does it appear to put its members’ interests above its own separate commercial interests."... "I do not consider that the NFSP can in these circumstances properly be considered to be independent, or to be acting in the interests of SPMs [Subpostmasters]”

    I can hear the groan of sub-postmasters across the country as the government presents as part of the solution to the issues raised in the , rather than being part of the problem

    That is why the Minister responsible in my department, Kelly Tolhurst, now has quarterly meetings with the National Federation of SubPostmasters as a way of ensuring a better relationship with those who are at the sharp end of the Post Office.

    As has pointed out on multiple occasions, the election technology market is a terrible one to sell in, even if we ignore the genuinely hard technical challenges of the field

    These offices are often on shoestring budgets, competing with things like road repair for resources. Improving and supporting local election IT security needs to be a much higher priority than it has been, aside from issues with voting machines themselves.

    You are building a tabulation system on the critical path of human history. Do you: a) Have your decent public university CS dept build an open-source solution and ask for public review? b) Pay the lowest bidder and keep it secret from election security experts?
