I believe in individual freedom, not giving some people the freedom to deny freedom to other people. That includes limiting the rights people have over their children's bodies and beliefs.
They are not permanent, so I don’t see them as identical. I wouldn’t do it to my child if they were not old enough to consent, but I don’t see it as the same thing as male circumcision or FGM. I don’t think we should be putting holes in our children’s bodies and I’m no fan.

They'd have to use stretchers and have them big gaping holes to be a similar level of modification but it is the same principle at a smaller cost.

Piercings can cause lifetime medical problems in some people -- I can't say if the percentage is high or low, TBH.

Lots of things ‘can’ cause medical problems. Unless there is a reason why those things need to be done, I don’t see why they should be. I don’t think FGM or circumcision are acceptable as they are needless & they can be done when the person reaches a later age if they wish.

Short little article on the complications of infant ear piercing:https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/news/articles/The-Risks-of-Infant-Ear-Piercing …

I’m not arguing. If there is evidence of harm then I don’t have an issue with something being restricted until the subject of that action is old enough to make an informed decision themselves.
-
Oh, I didn't think you were arguing. I just wanted to add some information on piercings.
