Fave this if you’ve ever been told to straighten your hair, that you look better when it’s straight, or been commented on how “messy” your hair looks. Jobs have even told my mom to slick her hair down because it’s too poofy lol. It’s especially prevalent in tourism.

My CHamoru father-in-law and husband both have curly hair. My husband’s paternal grandparents and great grandparents also had curly hair, on both branches.

My mom didn’t know how to really take care of her curly hair, so she didn’t know how to take care of mine either. I had to teach myself when I got older. Grew up with my hair looking like a frizzy sheep because she would shampoo the shit out of it
