Why I reject the word "gaslighting." It's used to silence someone by forcing the premise they are an abuser and manipulator. It's also a victim card, trying to claim that someone else can manipulate you to such a degree that they are responsible for your perception of reality.
Just like the word racism is being thrown around today. All you have to do is say someone is gaslighting you and any attempt to defend against it is just chalked up to be more gaslighting. YOU are responsible for your own thoughts and ideas, no one gaslights you. YOU allow it.
That’s a terribly broad generalization though. Just like we shouldn’t abuse the connotation or meaning or words by overusing them, nor should we omit them entirely if their meaning is perverted or abused. It is incumbent upon the individual to use the word as intended.

It doesn't actually matter if you reject it or not. It still exists. It's very empowering that be able to recognize when someone is doing it instead of always questioning yourself and feeling stupid. That will lead to change instead of being a victim.
