I disagree. Tech isn't disconnected from society at large. Members of groups which are targets of prejudice do encounter similar attitudes in the workplace. If, as result, they are underrepresented in your org, you will suffer from a lack of diversity

And that lack of diversity WILL reduce diversity of thoughts and ideas. Don't expect such diversity when everyone has the same background, culture, and experiences. Ignoring that is a real threat to the ability of your org to succeed

Spoken like a person who has never been the only one who is distinctly different at the table. Like it or not, people are treated differently for the reasons you ideologically toss away as if it's a misunderstanding. They shapes us and diversify us for good or bad.

I am almost ALWAYS the person who is distinctly different at the table. This is pretty self evident.

As a libertarian (little L) I'm a defacto minority when we're divided on political ideas not on skin color or sexual orientation. Note that if you're libertarian or conservative but also a woman or gay, you're not even remotely respected by the left in fact you're mocked.

One of my friends is a conservative woman, I have gay friends who were libertarian or conservative. I'm cool with them, and I'm a "Liberal" (mostly Progressive). I really disagree with that notion.

I disagree with the phrasing here, and would argue true diversity deals in both. As sickening as this sounds, I’ve had friends fired simply for their sexuality (a difficult case to prove if there’s no paper trail) or for refusing to return a quid-pro-quo sexual favor as a woman.

Diversity of ideology is key. To paraphrase Milton, we cannot have knowledge of good if we do not also consume knowledge of evil. Or to generalize, we cannot claim our own views as balanced and mature if we do not attempt to analyze and digest opposing ideologies.
