There are not "two sides" to this discussion. One person, @simpleprogammer, attacked and bullied multiple people who regularly face oppression at work 4 calling out 1 toxic example. This unexamined #BullyCulture is why I left tech, why tech lost my skills, experience, & passion.

What toxic example did they call out? This is where I missed this. I saw one sincere question that got piled on. If I missed the boat here, I'm happy to be corrected, but I know Aimee extremely well and it felt like folks were looking for an example to make, not a solution.

I will not do that emotional labor for you. You can do your own due diligence and research. This has been clearly explained by multiple tweets and at least one blog. LISTEN to the people who tell you they have been harmed. It's a gift, something that costs them/us a lot. Take it.

Follow
@IjeomaOluo & read her book "So you want to talk about race" before you say anything else about civility to marginalized folks. This book is an easy & profoundly useful entry into the anti-oppression world & it's just the tiniest 1st step in your journey.1 reply 0 retweets 5 likes -

This. Please,
@cmaxw read "So you want to talk about race". It will be a small but vastly beneficial step to help you understand why Aimee's tweets are problematic and help have actual productive conversations about diversity and what "being nice" accomplishes.1 reply 0 retweets 3 likes -

Audibled that one too. I'm curious what I'll find in these. I don't promise to change my mind, but I do promise to open it.

Yeah that doesn’t seem like that book is racist at all. Hard pass. I don’t read books by self-proclaimed bigots.pic.twitter.com/Vx8iiZ66g2

It’s amazing that you can’t even see the hypocrisy of what you guys are doing and preaching when it’s so thick.
