Any chance this is abnormal behavior? Is there potentially some awful shit he's going through and just happens to be lashing out. Would a sincere apology help him save face? I don't condone this at all, just curious why now? Is it a pattern of behavior?

Careful...don't attempt to do anything but align with those that John was calling out, or you'll be targeted too. I love the intolerance of the "tolerant".

That is an absurd logical fallacy. In order for that to the true one must be able to decide what kind of intolerance is acceptable. Hitler could have easily justified his actions with your same argument. Think about it.

Hmm... Now why do I get the feeling you have a personal reason for wanting people to tolerate assholes... Hmm Oh! Right! Your behavior got you fired!

I don’t have a job. I’m independently wealthy. We all have to tolerate different points of view in order to have a functioning society.

Suppression of people or ideas through social shaming and mob justice is not any form of tolerance. Popper was talking about intolerance when everything else had failed, not as the first approach.

I’ve read just about every major philosopher in history. Literally hundreds of books on philosophy. You might want to educate yourself before debating me on the topic.

Am I hypocritical in this instance—of course. I admit that freely. I fell into the trap of briefly thinking the ends justified the means. I acted rash and foolishly. But it does not diminish the intent.

In fact, you could rightly say that I was being intolerant of the intolerant, by attacking bullies.

Which is precisely why your paradox of intolerance breaks down. If I believe someone is being intolerant and I respond with intolerance, round and round we go in a circle that can only end in violence when one faction destroys the other and gets to write the history of it.

The best thing you could probably read is John Stewart Mills. His book On Liberty, explains why free expression of ideas is so essential—even clearly wrong ones. And he wasn’t just talking about government.
