So pleased to be able to support this work from
Support for the Tories looks shakier than ever - but we must turn this into support for positive ideas.
The common ground exists for a radical shift to a better world.

& if it’s not the political path there’s this prevalence of thinking & practice that is rooted in engagement rather than development. Lots of listening to write plan or coproduce. Very little that’s really rooted in how many, including Ostrom, would describe community power

It's a good thing we have First Past the Post to produce such stable governments, and not chaotic coalitions under Proportional Representation, eh?

Britain in 2022:
💷 Biggest fall in wages for 100 years
🏚 14.5 million people living in poverty
❄️ 1 in 4 can’t afford proper heating
🍟 More foodbanks than McDonald’s
Our country is broken.
A lot more needs to change than just who is Prime Minister.

I’m hearing lots of stories of citizens needing a local authority vest & risk assessment to shift snow, pick up litter or clean street signs.
Where is this harmful narrative & practice originating?
Who is peddling this greatly misunderstood version of community power? 1/2

Our research on older people's demands for energy, which also apply to many disabled and young families, shows how regressive such measures can be. These are the groups least able to shift energy use. infona.pl/resource/bwmet

But each deed you do, each act, binds you to itself and to its consequences, and makes you act again and yet again. Then very seldom do you come upon a space, a time like this, between act and act, when you may stop and simply be. Or wonder who, after all, you are.

Hello friends - anyone had experience of - impressive functionality - although is it all driven by local authority control - can citizens control it themselves?

Liz Truss going is not enough.
Austerity must go.
Poverty wages must go.
Foodbank queues must go.
Cold homes in winter must go.
A new suit in Downing Street means nothing to our people.
Fix the society you have broken – or get out of the way.

We do! The vast majority are happy to pay higher taxes for better public services and a strong safety net. The people also overwhelmingly want the rich to pay their fair share through wealth tax, higher Income Tax over £100k & a clampdown on avoidance.

I'm halfway through new book (altho I did have a peak before publishing)
I'm struck by how much of the local work here is guided by the wisdom on the pages & the community of people who have contributed.
It feels like the guide neighbourhoods have been waiting for

Flipping it on its head, & where I saw it best is where Council's had established relationships with community already. 'Emergency' is the descriptor of the moment, if the right relationship is there it becomes folk looking out for each other in tough times, no unlocking required

Great graphic setting out how we de-institutionalise our understanding of “the frontline” in a crisis: it’s communities, not services, who are the first line of defence & response.

The Tories have taken £2.1 billion from since their first round of austerity from 2010.
In trying to clear up the economic mess created by , they must not inflict any more damage on our local services.

Is it okay that fossil fuels are subsidised 30 times more than renewables when offshore wind is 9 times cheaper?
Is it okay that the government is granting more than 100 new fossil fuel licenses?
Is it okay that climate inaction has led us to a cost of living crisis?

This is fascinating - but I think should be careful of increasing further bias by implying this is a specially US problem. I suspect similar kinds of wild inaccuracy can be found everywhere.

Never underestimate the vast ignorance of Americans.
Respondents to a YouGov poll believed, on average, that Jews are 30% of the population (they're actually 2%), blacks are 41% (they're actually 13%), and Muslims are 27% (they're actually 1%).
Visited a food bank today & spoke with volunteers.
Felt total gratitude to an amazing group of people working in these circumstances.
And despair that our inequality crisis is a result of very deliberate political choices by this government.
It doesn't have to be like this.
