Yes, from memory this inversion, trapping the haze/smog was at about 12,000ft, as I think we were accelerating from 250kts at the time.
This was a little further south, as it was out of Mumbai, but it's often India wide, especially over Diwali !
True, have seen it too .. the pollution is so high sometimes the whole view turns "sepia" below a level.. one an literally see a line..
The brightest patch with holes (heat island effect) is actually low-level fog overlaid with smoke in Pakistan.
