There’s 10,500 fewer people in hospital with Covid now, compared to this time last year & C19 deaths have decreased consistently since Nov 1st. Admissions also appear to be stabilising (PHE data). For those worried - it might not be all bad, despite the best efforts of the media

I am not pro or anti, the key piece is the lack of re mobilising the nightingale hospitals. The other key is like it or not vaccines are and will determine liberties going forward for this wave.

You know I wondered this earlier - if hospitals are to be tested, why not start the Nightingales up again? Surely a better situation than a potential lockdown? I agree ref vaccines, I suggest they will become normalised like the flu jab.

This is you thinking rationally to solve a problem with out the complications of politics. My guess. 14-day circuit breaker either on 27/12 or 3/1. A public and press distraction is needed to getting us thinking about anything other than cheese and wine work meetings.

I just don’t see it being 14 days, either. Not much turns in that time - unless it was turning anyway. Which, one might argue, is happening now in some areas.

It will be a month & the ‘leak’ to media yesterday around that was to see where the public were on it all. The worry is it does contain a shutdown of all leisure travel amongst other things such as outdoor only dining etc (in Jan!) Full data on Omicron not due until early Jan

This leaks are always a glimpse into the future - those results are key, and you’re right some caution is reasonable until then. However, month long lockdowns in winter can’t become a normal way of life in my view.

Agree. They absolutely can’t become normal in any way. And I genuinely believe they won’t. We are in a position now where we have an impotent PM more concerned with his own career than well being of a nation. Both mental and physical.

On the first point I hope you’re right, and on the second, the sooner Boris leaves the better!

Be careful what you wish for. Not as if any of the Tory leadership candidates are better. Most likely to be worse.

Very good point, but surely they couldn’t be worse

Dorries, Truss, Gove, Raab or Patel would be as bad or worse. Shapps or Sunak would be least awful. Oh what a wonderful selection
