Mandatory PCR tests will be gone in time for October half-term! 
for vaccinated adults and families seeking some winter sun abroad 
From 24 Oct take a cheaper lateral flow test on return, to make travelling easier and simpler for everyone 
Or you could get the best of both worlds: keep the PCR tests, thus maximizing virus surveillance, but putting a price cap on the tests so that people aren’t ripped off.

Why though (honest question)? Most (all?) EU countries have dropped any test requirement for vaccinated people. Couldn’t we drop any testing requirement, given any test will primarily affect UK citizens/residents and so results in charging people just to come home?

The way our rates are going (40x France one day this week), I wouldn’t be surprised if we are back on the naughty list for a lot of European countries again. I’m hoping to god we won’t but people think and are acting like it’s over and it’s far from over.
