I have a soft spot for Cape Verde-type hurricanes for exactly this reason. Even more amazing when these storms then go on to affect mid-latitude weather and places like the UK.
No matter how long I study them, I always find it fascinating that a series of thunderstorms on the West coast of Africa can become a Hurricane in the Americas.
The weather connects us all, even thousands of miles (km) apart.

When I visited my sister who was living for a while in Dakar, Senegal, there were some immense thunderstorms. It was early September and they would drift off west into the Atlantic to seed havoc elsewhere. Pretty thought provoking!
