The extreme heat in Canada has contributed to huge wildfires, such as one that's caused #Lytton to be evacuated.

How does heat contribute to fires? Isn't it caused by dryness?

Heat dries the fuel (grass, leaves, wood) by evaporating the moisture from it. Hot dry winds help this process. Any small flame (cigarette, tool spark, camp fire, lensed sunlight) will easily start a fire. Hot dry winds fan the flames very quickly. (Wildland firefighter)

What happens to Lytton's temperature record if the weather station burns down? A brief new record (presumably a new global high?) of 500°C, followed by no data until a replacement can be put in?
