You don't need me to press this, but I really need to emphasize that the difference between those that code and those who rely on traditional software is night and day! The gulf in ability, transferability and employability between the two is a vast gaping chasm!

I'm gonna be terrible. EO needs people with skill and knowledge. So I would start from there. Training is pointless if teaching was inadequate. I wish I could be more positive but it's that kind of night I guess.

Ability to translate knowledge into scaled/operational usage. We try and work on this and it's not easy but it's what the industry as a whole seems to need. Needs decent understanding of programming and computing as well as uncertainties in measurements etc

The gap between what we know / what is possible and what is used is often more than 20 years. At least in the public sector in Germany

The most pressing training need is a mentally and strength to want to grow and be open to seeing that training isn't a line in the sand but an opporutinity for continuous learning and also continuous failing. I don't think that answers your question at all though

I agree with Andrew. It's really important to increase awareness in the beginning by giving them not only "what" EO is, also "why". Because by knowing of "why", it can lead them to deeper exploring the EO field on their own, and make continuous learning.
