Context appears to be everything.
One thing that this pandemic has taught me is that there's a heck of a lot of airline pilots who are incapable of making rational safety-critical decisions, even when they have the benefit of plenty of time.

Hi Simon, I think that’s a smidge unfair imho. Modern decision making involves a constant loop that involves reviewing decisions, information and results. Questioning a decision and considering how factors have changed is important, even when sources tell you everything is fine.

Decision making in aviation inherently involves risk, and generally speaking airline pilots manage risk to a level that is acceptable for the benefit it brings. People have differing views on tolerable risk for reward, and having the debate is important. Zero risk isn’t possible.

Completely agree. Before the pandemic I would put my life in the hands on any British based pilots without fear. Not anymore. It has taught me also the hypocrisy: pilots hate that non-pilots comment and talk about plane incidents, while openly playing armchair virologists.
