I see that the extremely cold weather has brought out the “what happened to global warming?” brigade 
To be fair, it doesn't help that so many climate communicators say "see, climate change" every time there's a summer heatwave! The subtlety gets totally lost.

Do they though? Or do they say "look - this is what is going to happen more frequently in future"?

I think it’s often a problem with what can be said on Twitter with a limited character set, that can lose the subtlety and backfire

I write about heatwaves a lot. And can tell you I have had a lot of 'coldwaver' interactions, they are inspiring. Also, in the UK it's moreso 'look climate change' for floods, the public associate them more than heatwaves with climate change.

The cold weather is part of a pretty compelling "see, climate change" story if you ask me. Temps below -20 used to happen every other year on average in UK. Now it's more like once a decade.pic.twitter.com/7IMcjxjyak

Yeah, similarly for DJF mean CET < 2°C. Used to be once per decade, or at the most only one decade without. Now entirely absent since 1978-79
