Beautiful image, but it's not Kelvin–Helmholtz instability. The shear is wrongly oriented with respect to the stratification. It's barotropic instability. Great picture though!

Kelvin-Rossby (Sakai) and divergent barotropic instability (D’90 JAS) are candidates, not KH per se. The latter is a Kelvin-Rossby-Rossby hybrid. Kelvin is relevant because of coastal boundary (like EQ). Variable depth across the slope is a really interesting complication.
