It always amuses me that whilst it’s the shortest day, it’s neither the latest sunrise nor the earliest sunset! IIRC, that is.
Today is the #Solstice, when the sun appears at its furthest South. For those of us in the Northern hemisphere, today is the shortest day of the year.
